Bush Commentary

Stay the course.

I'm seriously going to move to Canada. Eventually :)

The Bush White House has made a further mockery of the American people by saying: "...well, when we said stay the course, which we only said a couple of times, what we were really saying was "change the course," but Americans are dumb and we don't want people repeating verbatim what we said to be held against us..." I paraphrase, of course, but the substance still stands. Tony Snow has made my list.

Discussed briefly in a Washington Post article, the deviation from the course of "staying the course" is of course being characterized by the administration a good thing. How many times do they have to be caught with their hands in the cookie jar before they admit that they were going for the cookies? When will we tell them that we've had enough? By their estimate, never. Karl Rove makes Machiavelli look like a preschooler trying to swindle his way into more recess, and the United States of America has become nothing more than a prop in the process.

Lies, lies, lies, lies, lies. I was admittedly disturbed (I admit that this is something of an understatement) when Clinton lied to us all on national television by (infamously) asserting: "I did not have sexual relations with that woman, Miss Lewinsky." I have to say, however, that by comparison this is nothing more than a fib. This didn't get American service-members killed. This didn't destabilize the Middle East. This didn't induce sectarian strife in Iraq. This didn't lead to the loss of America's legitimacy on the world stage. This didn't result in the erosion of our Constitutionally guaranteed rights. This didn't result in the transition of our Republic to a virtual monarchy.

While proposed as a joke, I am beginning to think that the best ticket in 2008 will be between the Stewart/Colbert or Colbert/Stewart. Considering that the Democrats have proven themselves inept at mounting a defense against the Bush administration's onslaught against America, how can they begin to think that they offer a better alternative? With their infighting and bickering having lead to the conspicuous absence of a unified platform over the course of the last five years, nothing has really changed. There is focus now, and a direction, but nothing that tells a rational, skeptical American that they need to go Democratic.

We are adrift, so set by King George. Better to jump to Canada, before you have to swim.

-S.W. America
